Late Christmas in a Winter Wonderland!

27 december 2015 - Grand Canyon National Park, Verenigde Staten

Today we woke up in Page, Arizona in a huge Super 8 hotel that was cheap and good! After eating breakfast with many Asian people we went on our way to the most famous Grand Canyon! The trip we made was very good, no snow whatsoever, just a few little pieces of ice on the road that were easy to avoid.

Along the road from Page to Cameron, which is sorta the entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park, and after Cameron were many stands set up by native Americans to sell handmade jewelry and dream catchers. Many were closed though, due to the cold weather. One was open, and we went inside to look for some souvenirs; copper and sterling bracelets. Unfortunately, we didn't find the right size for us.

After driving further towards the Canyon we came across the fee station. $30 per vehicle for 1 - 7 days. We went in, and stopped at all the viewpoints in the beginning, only to notice that this was just a small part of the park itself. The view was amazing! So much to see, the eye could reach the other side. The Canyon has a very interesting history of people, animals and geological events. After driving 35 kilometres, we came halfway the park, its huge! But beautiful nonetheless. We even saw a sign that warned us for mountain lions; puss as we call it. We arrived at the marketplace and ate something from the Christmas present Gaby gave us. The food was surprisingly cheap! $25 for a 20" (40 cm) pizza, a salad, a coke and a cup of coffee.

We went to the little souvenir shop they had located over there, and we trusted the shopkeeper when he said that everything was hand made by the Navajo natives. Mom and I gave each other Christmas presents, she really wanted a scarf since she gave hers to the cowboy we met, so I bought her a lovely red scarf with Navajo patterns made of very soft wool. She gave me a lovely sterling bracelet, to add to my "collection" of bracelets, with a turquoise stone in it. We walked to the ridge of the park, for a lovely view and then went back to the car. The hotels up there were expensive, so we decided to go to Williams, a small town just below the interstate 40.

Once arrived we went to the Super 8 located over there, since the night before was so cheap! Unfortunately it turned out that the staff was rude, and the rooms were expensive as well. We took the room, but we weren't happy. So as soon as we have internet again, I'm going to write a very very bad review. Tomorrow morning we are planning to go back to the park, since we haven't even seen everything! So alarm at 6:30 AM and up to dream land!
