GO JAZZ GO!

2 januari 2016 - Salt Lake City, Utah, Verenigde Staten

Today we arrived in Salt Lake City after a trip through the Rocky Mountains, which were covered in white powdery snow! Once we arrived there we saw that Salt Lake City was mostly industry along the road and that didn't really appeal to us. So we decided to go up north, towards Brigham City. But after a while we turned around to go to Salt Lake instead, to give it a try. We heard that the weather only was becoming worse and worse, so we also decided not to go to Yellowstone National Park. Also, the roads towards the park are closed during wintertime and its overall dangerous to drive there in the winter. So we went to Salt Lake City, and we really liked it actually!

The city was founded by Mormons. They build a huge temple in the middle of the city, after arriving in carriages pulled by horses. The cities population is also 50/50 Mormon, which is kind of crazy to think. We booked a room in North Temple Inn and went outside to eat something after asking the hotel clerk for recommendations. He also told us that there was a game going on that night, and he said we might wanted to check that out. So we went outside and bought tickets for the basketball game that was going on that night: Utah Jazz vs Minnesota Grizzlies.

We went to eat something at Red Iguana, the most popular Mexican food place in all of Salt Lake City! And you could see that it was popular, there was a waiting list of 30 minutes for a table for 2. It was cold outside, but there were heaters and hot cider to keep the customers who were waiting warm. Lovely! After eating some delicious Mexican food we went to the game! It was time to see action!

We walked to the stadium and it was huge! A lot of Jazz fans, since we were in the capital of Utah! I was, of course, supporting the Jazz team, but mom said she would support the team who had the lowest score. We sat down in our seats almost at the highest point of the stadium. And it was not JUST a basketball game; it was a show! With many performances by many people, like a baby race, a acrobatic team doing stunts on trampolines and a huge slingshot! And those are just examples, there was so much going on and it is just too much to name everything. A funny thing was that when the Grizzlies were about to make a point, the crowd would shout DEFENCE DEFENCE, as if the players didn't know. Also, when the Jazz were about to make a point with a free throw (when there is nobody to defend the goal) the crowd would be super quiet, but when the Grizzlies would do it the crowd was loud as fuck! Booing and clapping, doing everything to distract the players. At the end of the game, just one minute before it ended, the teams stood equal. But in the last minute Jazz made the final point, and everybody was happy! I've never seen anything like it, but I would gladly go again! Its way more than just some guys playing basketball, its almost a whole community coming together like a family, supporting their team. Its awesome!

After the game me and mom went back to the hotel to chill. I took a long long shower and bath since I haven't had one of those in a while, and it was sweet. Two hours in warm steamy water! And then to sleep :)
