See those four lights over there?

11 december 2015 - Burbank, California, Verenigde Staten

Today was the first day my mom woke up in the beautiful lands of Los Angeles. First thing we did today was get some breakfast. After a 4,5 hour power nap we went out of our room to get breakfast at New Woody's at my university. When we got there it turned out breakfast was sold out and we had to wait until 11:30 to get another meal from the grill (Sorry, I am dead tired right now so apologize for any spelling mistakes or whatsoever!). While waiting for the grill to open I showed mother around campus, met with a few people, including the lovely post office lady who loved the little pictures Karina made on my mail boxes! We also met Andrew, who was super excited to meet my mom, and a few others. We ate a burrito, god I'm going to miss those things, and then went on with our day!

Target, Burbank. First we went to get some water, since our (shitty) hotel doesn't have any fresh water fountains. We ended up buying some other groceries for our way to the other cities. After that was done we went to downtown Burbank. We went to drink a cup of Starbucks coffee, which is so freaking good in my opinion. Anyone would be allowed to wake me up for a caramel brulé frappuchino! My plan was to show her around Burbank to make her more known with the culture and city. We went to the mall afterwards, enjoying the little stands they had set up and the shops that selled all sorts of peculiar stuff. We stayed there until five in the afternoon and then went to get some sushi at Kabuki. Mom said, I think over a thousand times now, that she is very surprised that I like fish now. I think this is mainly because of my friend Sabrina, because she took me out for sushi a looooooooot! After that lovely meal we went back to campus to pack my clothes and get everything into our cute little Jeep! In the evening I checked out, gave my keys to my RA and said goodbye to my lovely roommate Maddie, who was also leaving for going home that night. We went back to the hotel and started preparing for our night plans!

My plan was to get to the beautiful spot I was taken to my first night here in LA: Stough Canyon Nature Centre. It is a 30/45 minute hike up a steep hill that results in a beautiful view over Burbank city. It is like playing Where is Waldo when you want to point something out (and that is where the title came from). Mom wanted to point out four lights in this scene of litteraly an ocean of lights! Eventually I found the spot that she meant, but boy oh boy, that was hard to catch my eye. She thought it was lovely, and I really wanted to give her that first view of LA, just like it was my first view of the city. After we walked down we stepped into our Jeepyjeep and went down the hill. Little did we know the park closed at 10 PM. We stepped out of the car, looking at a fence that was closed with a lock, kind of worrying how we were going to fix this problem of ours. We went back up the hill and saw that we were able to call 911. Me, never called an emergency number before, didn't really knew what to say to the woman on the other side of the line. After awkwardly explaining what we got ourselves into the woman told me the police was on their way. After waiting less than 20 minutes a young police officer arrived at the other side of the gate and tried to open it. Unfortunately, none of his keys worked on the lock. He told us his colleague was on his way and would arrive shortly. We waited another few minutes when two police cars arrived and one officer opened the gate. Relieved and very very tired from our hike we went back to our hotel room, only to notice that in one of the vents iron was scratching along iron, a very annoying sound to most. After some trouble with the staff we finally got a new room that didn't make sound.

All in all, a very well ended first day of our roadtrip! Let many more days come to us, and let's enjoy beautiful America!
